This is the right place if you have ideas for a new product or commercially viable research results. The ECM is a project run by Justus Liebig University Giessen. As the founder of a new business, you can find support from MAFEX, the Marburg institute for innovation research and start-up funding at Philipps-Universität Marburg. Apart from questions of finance, you can find out about knowledge transfer and innovation management. to make an appointment for a personal consultation.

  • TransMIT GmbH (a company for technology transfer; website in German)

can support you in converting your scientific competence into a successful venture from the conception of your idea to observing the market and sounding out the right sector and finally to launching your business. TransMIT GmbH was founded in 1996 as a joint project of the universities in Central Hessen, thefinancial institutions Volksbank and savings institution Sparkasse alongside the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Giessen-Friedberg. TransMIT offers you advice on technology-oriented start-ups and innovations.

  • You’re interested in creating a sustainable measures for your commercial transfer activities or in taking initial steps towards setting up your own business?
    Establishing a TransMIT Centre or Project Area (website in German) is the perfect opportunity as they serve to market innovative technologies and services created at the RCCH universities.
  • You want to apply for a federal government programme to start up your business? TransMIT GmbH is at the interface between research and business and offers coaching on EXIST funding scholarships and EXIST research transfer by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.     Gründungswerkstatt Mittelhessen is an initiative by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in Central Hessen to guide you through from the basics to planning, setting up and running your business.

     

    This portal run by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy provides important information and tips on setting up a business, including a public authority guide.

     

    This portal offers advice on becoming self-employed, an overview on the different forms of start-ups and funding programmes as well as information on who to contact.  

     

    The National Agency for Women Start-Ups Activities and Services offers the political, business, academic and public sectors a platform for information and services related to women entrepreneurship in all areas and phases of company foundation, consolidation and succession.

     

    Workshop with investment opportunities


    Can you go from an idea for a business model to the chance to find an investor in just 54 hours? With the Central Hessen Start-Up-Weekend you can. This three-day intensive workshop offers coaching by experienced mentors from the start-up scene and brings you in contact with successful business founders who share their experiences. In addition, the best concepts presented receive an award and participants have to chance to secure an initial investment. Interested?     Grants and competitions for start-up funding for your business project


    The EXIST Business Start-Up Grant is offered by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy for innovative technological and knowledge-based start-up projects belonging to students, graduates and scientists from universities and research institutes.

     

    The Hessen Ideen grant and competition are designed for university members and graduates interested in setting up their own business.  

     

    The Digitale Innovationen competition for start-ups aims at innovative business ideas for products and services based on Artificial Intelligence.

    Qualification offered by the universities

    The qualification centres at Justus Liebig University Giessen and Philipps-Universität-Marburg offer classes in transferable skills that may help you set up and run your own business.  Here you will find the programme offered by the Centre for Foreign Language Skills and Career Development (ZfbK) at JLU (website in German) and here the one offered by MArburg University Research Academy (MARA).

    Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences offers classes for start-ups. Please contact at the Division of Research, Transfer and Early-Career Researchers.


    Chambers of Industry and Commerce

    The Chambers of Industry and Commerce in the region offer information events as well as workshops and seminars about start-ups. For further information, please consult the websites listed below:

     

    The Chamber of Industry and Commerce’s information event for start-up entrepreneurs (website in German) is free of charge and gives you an initial idea of the most important topics for launching an entrepreneurship (the basics on self-employment, devising a business plan, funding opportunities).

    The seminar programme Basics on Setting up a Business (website in German) provides you with the most important information on starting into self-employment. The topics cover business plans, financial support, market analysis, taxation and insurance.

     

    The Chamber of Industry and Commerce Kassel-Marburg offers a comprehensive programme of events (in German) on a wide variety of topics concerning start-ups.


    Events such as the Start-Up Day (website in German) offer information on legal forms of organisation and start-up terms, financing, taxation, funding and the business plan.


    TIG Academy

    The Technologie- und Innovationszentrum Gießen (TIG) (technology and innovation centre Giessen;  (website in German) offers a comprehensive range of seminars for young entrepreneurs. The events are free of charge. The venue is at TIG, Winchesterstrasse 2, 35394 Giessen. Please register at least two days before the event. More information is available here.
