Dr Benedict Tan
Dr Benedict Tan - Junior Research Group Leader at the Philipps University of Marburg and Fraunhofer IME (Bioressources)
Since 1 January 2024, Dr Benedict Tan has headed a cross-institutional junior research group funded by the FCMH between the Philipps University of Marburg (UMR) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology (IME), Bioresources Division. The aim of this group is to strengthen co-operation between the two institutions and to advance research in joint projects.
Dr Tan holds a PhD in biochemistry and his research focuses on mitochondrial gene expression and the effects of defects in this process on various diseases. Mitochondria are vital cell organelles that play a central role in cell communication and immune regulation.
His research interests include:
- Gene expression of mitochondria
- Mitochondrial dysfunction
- Cell communication and immune regulation
- Development of new therapies for mitochondrial diseases
Dr Tan's goal is to gain new insights that could lead to the development of effective therapies for mitochondrial diseases.
