Material, Molecule and Energy

Short Description

The Campus Research Focus “Material, Molecule and Energy” is excellently networked on both a regional and an international scale. Scientists at the Universities of Giessen and Marburg and the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen University of Applied Sciences conduct joint interdisciplinary research with other universities and research partners in Germany and abroad, applying theoretical, experimental and application-oriented approaches. Apart from basic research on the storage of chemical and electrochemical energy, research focuses on the exploration of substitution concepts for sustainable and resource-efficient materials and the further development of semiconductors, other functional materials and microelectronic devices for the operation of future technologies, for instance, in the field of photonics, optoelectronics and electronics technologies. Besides structural characterisations on atomic length scales, materials researchers examine the macroscopic characteristics of modern materials relevant for the technical application, focusing on mechanical, electronic and optical aspects. They establish the scientific basis required for applications and explore the production and the utilisation of innovative materials. In doing so, they contribute towards the development and practical use of promising technologies. The longstanding cooperation between the three universities is also evident in the Materials Research Day Central Hessen established over ten years ago where researchers from Giessen and Marburg gather in either Giessen or Marburg once a year to discuss their current results.
