Request for acceptance as a doctoral student

Please submit the request electronically and by post to the Management Office. There is no specific application time frame but please note that the Doctoral Committee generally meets four times a year. In order for your application to be considered in the next meeting of the Doctoral Committee, please submit your complete application to the Management Office at the latest three weeks prior to the meeting.

Please submit the following documents:

  1. Application form
  2. Curriculum vitae
  3. Officially certified copies of your Bachelor’s and Master’s or equivalent degree certificates (if applicable, with officially certified translations into German or into English)
  4. Declarations and certificates of other academic and state examinations which you have passed or failed
  5. Declarations stating if and with what result you applied to other universities to be accepted as a doctoral candidate
  6. List of scientific articles/papers that you have already published
  7. Working title and preliminary resource and working plan for your dissertation project: The topic must defined in such a way that the dissertation may be completed within three years
  8. Your proposed supervisors for your doctoral project
  9. Written statement and declaration of consent by the proposed supervisors
  10. Declaration that you have received the regulations on good scientific practice from the university in charge of your doctoral procedure and that you will observe the principles of good scientific practice in your work
  11. If applicable, a written agreement to provide funding for materials and staff or a workplace signed by your proposed supervisor and if required also by the head of the research facility which will be responsible for offering you the workplace on condition that the workplace or the funding for materials and staff, as the case may be, must be provided for the dissertation to be carried out
  12. Applicants with a degree in a subject which is not part of the requisite discipline (requisite disciplines are engineering sciences, life sciences and natural sciences)must submit proof of the requisite knowledge of the discipline (e.g. attendance of relevant classes) if such proof is available
  13. Applicants from countries other than the Federal Republic of Germany must supply confirmation by the proposed supervisor that the applicant is sufficiently proficient in the German or the English language (provided the applicant has not taken a university degree in the Federal Republic of Germany)
