Fields of Research

Our research group aims to elucidate the signals that control the development of our cardiovascular system and lead to the formation of a three-dimensional network of blood vessels. Since the underlying cell biological and developmental processes are conserved across all vertebrates, we use the zebrafish (Danio rerio) as model organism. It is easily genetically manipulated with the CRISPR / Cas9 system. The optical transparency of the embryos in combination with reporter lines also allows us to study individual cells in vivo during the formation of the blood vessel network.
