Where individual strengths create collective excellence
Three universities, two types, one shared vision - from theory to practice: Justus Liebig University Giessen, Marburg University , and THM University of Applied Sciences are pooling their scientific expertise and networks in the Research Campus of Central Hessen (FCMH), thereby creating new opportunities for collaboration and innovation.
Our goal is to highlight individual excellence, strengthen collaboration, and open up new avenues for science and society. With this, we aim to establish Central Hessen as a leading research and innovation region in Europe.
Our Mission
At the Research Campus of Central Hessen, we believe in the power of collaboration and the strength of each individual. FCMH is not just an alliance of three universities, it is a network comprising thousands of researchers who contribute their individual skills and multiply their potential. Whether basic science or concrete application – together we shape research that transcends boundaries and promote projects that maximise the potential of each individual university: from the efficient use of shared infrastructure to the transfer of knowledge and technology to industry. In this way, we create structural and strategic added value for our members and partners and strengthen Central Hessen as an internationally recognised centre of science and innovation.

We connect people whose individual perspectives and talents create new impetus for research and innovation, transcending institutional and disciplinary boundaries. With forward-looking projects that extend far beyond Central Hessen, we set standards for cross-university cooperation. Through joint successes in national and international competition, Central Hessen will become a cutting-edge research and innovation region.
Our Values
Courageous
We are pioneers of cross-university collaboration and develop innovative and future-oriented processes, contents and structures, such as the Graduate Centre for Engineering Sciences. We create spaces for exploration of new ideas, give impulses for the creation of networks and courageously tackle the big questions of our time.
Personal
We ensure the successful continuation of over 20 years of cooperation between the three universities in Central Hessen. Our recipe for success is the individual, personal support of our members and the close and cooperative exchange across universities, which we promote through networking events and joint working groups.
Diverse
The Research Campus of Central Hessen bundles the diverse skills of over 10,000 scientists focused on application-oriented and fundamental research. It enables interdisciplinarity across the entire spectrum of subjects and, with more than 600 specialised research devices and facilities, offers infrastructures and the potential for developing powerful research networks that are otherwise only possible in metropolitan regions, proving that together, we achieve more.

The greatest breakthroughs in science are often the result of unconventional ideas and the courage to think differently. True excellence does not come from conformity, but from developing one's own strengths. Every researcher has unique skills and perspectives. It is precisely this diversity that is the key to new discoveries and innovations.

Diversity Brought to Life
The logo of the Research Campus of Central Hessen translates our attitude into a clear visual form. It represents openness, momentum, and the power of individual perspectives.
The three bars symbolise respective areas of focus of the three partner universities, ranging from basic research and application-oriented development to international networking. Their dynamic arrangement illustrates that research is not a static system, but continuous interaction. The profiles and priorities are constantly evolving, just like the people who shape them. Coloured bars highlight that certain topics or partners may come into focus during a project. Our logo thus also stands for individual freedom within shared structures.
Our logo is based on a generative design principle: algorithms are used to create ever-changing but consistent logo variants and design patterns. This allows us to create a visual language that is as changeable as research itself. The corporate design of the Research Campus of Central Hessen thus becomes more than just a design language: it is an expression of our attitude and our conviction that true excellence arises from diversity.
